There is an investment in this Hong Kong film, a CAT III melodrama that tells the story of a pair of Malay prostitutes and their pimps in the underworld of the HK sex industry. For many fans of this genre, it can be seen as a combination of “Pretty Woman” and “Lilya-4-Ever”. The story begins with a Triad trafficking arms and drugs between Hong Kong and Zhuhai, but most of their illegal activities are caught by the Chinese police. The Triad whistleblower is Yuen, who is so angry that he kidnaps the policeman’s wife, abusing her until she refuses to work as a prostitute in Hong Kong. Yuen’s niece is a narcotics agent in the Hong Kong Narcotics Bureau, who works with Ng to put Yuen in jail.

The film is shot in a very beautiful style with a good use of colored lighting and slow motion effects. The combination of light and dark is also beyond typical HK dramas, let alone CAT III stuff. The acting is also great, both female leads bring a lot of sympathy to their roles, especially Sai-Tang Chan. The male actors are all very good, especially Kit and the main Triad boss Kan.

The script is extremely sex positive about the sex workers who are trafficked as people who choose to do this because they have dreams and families and are trying to make the best of their lives. There is a whole subplot about police corruption, and it goes into a lot of detail about how prostitution and finding clients works in HK.
