Mexican cinema is still a stranger to many movie lovers, as there are few projects that are widely shown. Sex, Shame and Tears has brought Mexican cinema to the world, as it has received a lot of attention. The film is based on a play by Antonio Serrano, which is basically about two couples going through a difficult period in their lives. This dramatic comedy has some lightness when a few friends enter the lives of the two couples, as they act as catalysts, to resolve their differences.
The film is set in two apartments across from each other in Mexico City at the end of the millennium, the main character is Carlos, an intellectual who does not have much love for his wife Ana. Tomas, a world-traveling friend of the couple, re-emerges after many years abroad. Across the street, the philandering CEO Miguel and his grieving wife Andrea are joined by their visiting friend Maria. The presence of the guests Tomas and Maria arouses desire, rejection, infidelity, reconciliation and other consequences of repressed love and marital relations.
