Leslie Cheung was a top star of HK cinema in the 90s, with his boyish good looks and versatile acting ability. With his extremely difficult role in Viva Erotica, he proved to everyone that he was talented. This is probably the first serious film to escape the breast-showing and still be a great work of art. The film satirizes the sex obsession of the Hong Kong film industry in a very unique way. Directors Derek Yee and Lo Chi-Leung also wrote the script, with Ka Man as the third writer, all of whom have found common ground to create a classic HK film. But the cast is no slouch either, especially Leslie Cheung as Kwok-Wing, Karen Mok as Man-Wai and Shu Qi as Mango.

The film tells the story of a struggling director who is given the opportunity to direct a Cat-III film to revive his career. Torn between artistic integrity and financial troubles, he must also deal with a jealous girlfriend and a difficult actress, all while keeping his gangster sponsors happy.
